Attributes are the best way to segment your list of people or products. They allow you to capture any type of data and automatically attach it to the person or product's profile. Attributes allow you to:

  • Combine attributes to build filtered down lists

  • Kick-off campaigns to automate your marketing workflow

  • Send newsletters and text messages directly to tagged people

How to Create an Attribute

  1. Click on your company name in the top left corner.

2. Navigate to Tagging and click Setup New Attribute.

3. Under the Usage dropdown, you will choose where your new attribute will be used. If you would like it to be used over multiple parts of the platform, you will need to create multiple attributes, each with a different Usage.

4. In the Field Type dropdown, you will specify how you would like the data to be displayed or inputted. For example, do you want the attribute to come from a specified list (radio button single selection, dropdown single selection or checkbox multiple selections) or should it include free text (short textbox input or long textbox input).

5. In the Attribute Lable field, type what you would like to call this attribute.

6. If you have chosen a Field Type that requires options, including the options in the box under "List the Accepted REsponses:" Each option should be on its own line.

7, You will have the option to fill out the Advanced Options. They are:

Assign to a Category: Choose a category for your attributes so they only display when in the respective category. If you want the attribute to apply to all categories, leave it as "No Category".

Group Data: This is an internal field that you can use to group your attributes. If you add the same word here across multiple attributes, they will be grouped together in the PeopleVine software.

Order: The number you put in this field will affect the order an attribute shows up on your website for filtering.

Enter Placeholder: Any text typed into this field will be displayed in the textbox for your attribute as an example.

Help Text: Any text typed into this field will be displayed below an attribute to help people understand what it is.

Set Attribute as Searchable: By turning this on, members who are on your e-commerce site will be able to search for the values of these attributes.

Allow Item Owner to Edit this Attribute: By turning this on, whoever created this attribute will be able to make edits to it in the future.

8. Once you are satisfied with all of your settings, click Create.

How to Manage an Attribute

  1. Click on your company name in the top left corner.

2. Navigate to Tagging and click Manage Attributes

3. Locate the attribute you would like to edit and click edit on the right.

4. Adjust the settings of the attribute.

5. Once you are satisfied with your changes, click Update Attribute.

How to Delete an Attribute

  1. Click on your company name in the top left corner.

2. Navigate to Tagging and click Manage Attributes

3. Locate the attribute you would like to make featured and click delete on the right.

Adding Attributes to Records

Add Attributes to Your Products

  1. Click Sell in the toolbar.

2. Navigate to Products and click on Manage Products.

3. Find the product you would like to assign an attribute to. Click the tag button on the right.

4. Scroll down to the attributes section. Click Assign Attribute.

Find the attribute you would like to assign, and click the assign button on the right.

Select the values you want to assign to the product and click assign.

You should now see the attribute you assigned in the list.

How to Remove an Attribute from a Product

  1. Follow Steps 1 - 3 in Add Attributes to Your Products.

  2. Find the attribute you would like to delete and click Remove.

Add Attributes to Your People

Manually Add an Attribute to a Person

  1. Search for the person you would like to tag with an attribute and click on their record.

  2. Click on Tag Attribute.

  3. Under Tag Attribute add in the name of the attribute. For example, you may add "Alma Mater" if you want to know what your member's universities.

  4. Under Value, add the value for this particular member. For example, if your member went to Harvard, you would type Harvard into this field.

  5. Click Assign Attribute. You should now see the attribute on the left-hand column for your member.

How to Edit an Attribute on a Person

  1. Search for the person you would like to edit attributes for.

2. Scroll down on the left-hand column until you see the Attributes section.

3. Click the pencil icon next to the Attribute you would like to edit.

4. Make the changes you wish to make.

5. Once you are satisfied, click Update Attribute.

How to Delete an Attribute on a Person

  1. Follow Steps 1 - 3 in How to Edit an Attribute on a Person.

  2. Click the Delete button.
