Troubleshooting "Potential Security Risk" Alert on Your URL

Are you seeing an alert that reads "Potential Security Risk" on your URL? It could be because you have or do not have www. in your SSL certificate.

If you typed www.yourwebsite.com and are getting the alert, try typing yourwebsite.com.

Setting up a Custom Vanity URL

Please note: This feature is only available if you are on V1 of PeopleVine.

If you want to make a URL read something along the lines of www.yourdomain.com/application you will need to set up a custom vanity URL. Vanity URLs are great to add to marketing materials and will be easy for your members to remember. Vanity URLs are also indexable by search engines so will show up in results if keywords match what a user is searching.

You can create any vanity URL except for those that come out-of-the-box. You can find a list of out-of-the-box URLs here.

  1. Click on your name in the top left corner.

2. Navigate to URLs & Domains, then Vanity URL, and click on Setup Vanity URL.

3. Select the main domain. This will be the first part of the URL such as www.yourwebsite.com. In most cases, you will want to choose "All Domain Names."

4. Enter the "slug" in the field labeled "Enter Vanity URL". This is the last part of the URL such as /membership or /comingsoon. This is a great opportunity to optimize your SEO. This must start with a forward slash "/".

5. If you want people to be able to visit the vanity URL, be sure that you toggle on "This vanity URL is currently active."

6. Select the type of page you would like the vanity URL to point to. Once you choose the type of page, the existing pages of this type will populate below. You will need to select the exact page it will point to. In the example below, the vanity URL will point to the membership portal login.

7. Once you are satisfied with your setup, click Create.

How to Manage an Existing Vanity URL

If you would like to take down a vanity URL or change where it points to, you will want to follow these steps:

  1. Click on your name in the top left corner.

2. Navigate to URLs & Domains, then Vanity URL, and click on Manage Vanity URLs.

3. Make the changes you wish to make and click Update Vanity URL.

Create a Short URL and Track Visits

Please note: This feature is only available if you are on V1 of PeopleVine.

One of the easiest ways to track the total hits from a lead source is by setting up a short URL in PeopleVine. Once this URL is set up, you can then start to track each time it's visited. Short URLs are great to use in marketing materials where a vanity URL may be too long. A Short URL created in PeopleVine may look similar to "http://gopv.us/Sjr3". To set up a Short URL follow these steps:

  1. Click on your name in the top left corner.

  2. Navigate to URLs & Domains, then Short URL, and click on Setup Short URL.

3. Click the radio button next to "Setup a Short URL."

4. In the field called URL Destination add in the URL where you would like the Short URL to be directed.

5. In the field called URL Name, label this Short URL. This will be for internal use only and will be how the Short URL is identified in PeopleVine.

6. When you are satisfied, click Continue.

7. On the next page, you will see the Short URL and an accompanying QR Code.

Now that your short URL is setup, we will track every time someone visits it. They can go directly to the short URL (which keep in mind is case sensitive) or use the QR Code.

Manage a Short URL

  1. Click on your name in the top left corner.

  2. Navigate to URLs & Domains, then Short URL, and click on Manage Short URLs.

3. Find the Short URL you would like to make changes to and click the Edit button.

4. Make any changes you wish to make and click Update URL when you are satisfied.

View Hits on a Short URL

If you would like to see the short URL you created, the accompanying QR code or how many people have visited this URL, follow these steps:

  1. Click on your name in the top left corner.

  2. Navigate to URLs & Domains, then Short URL, and click on Setup Short URLs.

3. Find the Short URL you would like to make changes to and click the Menu button.

4. On this page you will be able to see the URL created (up top), how many times the URL has been accessed (bottom left), and the QR code (bottom right).
